About Anti-Pop Percussion

Here you will find access to the sacred script. Now in its tenth decade of underground circulation. From its humble origins of being passed hand to hand at DCI backlots to its current digital cyber state, like us the book has stayed the same and constantly changed. The reception has always been the same: Marching percussionists weeping until the staff got sent for mops and buckets. 

Regardless of the veracity of that statement..., we can confirm that cats have been digging this tome since back before Game of Thrones sucked. They (you, maybe, even) couldn’t get enough of the beats, which have toed the line of fun and challenging enough to keep them engaged without discouraging them. Sometimes...

How could something written so fun yet so demanding beat to beat, measure to measure, exist? How could any sane drummer not weep to short out the A/V equipment? But the doors were unlocked in impressionable minds… and the brave few who have finished playing through these pieces knew now that the world they had known was no longer the world that existed. Anything was possible. Their minds were exposed to the infinite. The people were enlightened. The people wanted more. 

The warm, sometimes frantic reception to the initial Anti-Pop primer has always warmed the heart of Anti-Pop’s El Presidente and Dictator-for-Life,and he has published these jams in physical form via underground presses and distributed them through shady dealers. You can find them floating still around the band rooms of Chicago…mind the puddles.  

But now, like you, we’ve modernized. We’re digital now. Lowkey Viral AF. And so we present these lines again in their pristine form, and encourage you to break the piece down a few measures at a time to properly learn and internalize the section.  First 16 counts? Slowly work through each downbeat… Few reps and you’ll have it.. Then do the same for the next 16…and now try to play the two together as a phrase…you get it. Like a recipe. For greatness.  

By the way.... This is all cool fun groovy drumline stuff you can play in lots to warmup, etudes and on-field warmups, stand jams and cadences.... Looks like we forgot to mention that in the beginning...but hey, that’s why you had to read to the end.
